About Us Schmalts is a good ingredient for chicken soup
Schmalts is a good ingredient for chicken soup; it's a better ingredient for your enjoyment .. that is if you like Klezmer Music The word Klezmer comes from two Hebrew words. Klay, which means "vessel of" - and Zemer, meaning "song". It's a Yiddish word for musical instrument and is used to describe the dance music of Eastern European, Ashkenazi Jews.
It's also a term for the musicians. Klezmer is the music that speaks to the heart. It's balkans and blues, ancient Jewish culture and prayer and history, spirit and jazz all mixed together. Good klezmer, and the music inspired by it, demands that one dance. In the words immortalized by Emma Goldman: "If your revolution doesn't include klezmer, I don't want it." Schmalts is a good Yiddish word, which means fat, and has a joyful connotation. Our band entertains in all music styles: Klezmer, Israeli, Dance, Yiddish, Sephardic, Hassidic, and more. at festivals and concerts, weddings, bar/bat mitzvahs, & other events for their own amusement and ... the enjoyment of our hosts. Our San Diego Jewish Band is made of experienced musicians: violins (fiddle), accordeon, guitar, harmonica, mandolin, keyboard and percussion.
